Santa Fe Youth Organization Recieves Grant From Kellogg Foundation

Santa Fe, N.M. (February 18, 2010)- Earth Care, a non-profit youth leadership organization in Santa Fe, New Mexico, has received a $45,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation for its Youth Food Cadre Program.

This program enables youth, ages 5-25, to lead and participate in creative solutions to issues of: hunger, food insecurity, diabetes and obesity, and the impact of the food system on the environment.

The Youth Food Cadre Program includes an 11-month training and community service program for 13 young professionals. Cadre members are placed with NGOs, Santa Fe schools, and the local government. Through these organizations, Cadre members support and lead projects such as: school garden education programs, youth-led community gardens, backyard garden installation for low-income families, food & nutrition education, Food advocacy, expanding Food Stamp programs at the Farmer’s Market, and a City/County sustainability demonstration center.

Earth Care also received funding for this program from the New Mexico Commission on Community Volunteerism’s AmeriCorps Program, Santa Fe Community Foundation, Isora Foundation, and many individuals.
