Albuquerque, New Mexico—SKI New Mexico, the statewide organization representing the state’s ski industry, and KOAT-7 are teaming up to present a special opportunity for New Mexico youths to learn to ski. The project is called “KOAT KIDS SKI NEW MEXICO”. On the weekends of February 23-24, March 1-2 and March 8-9, kids ages 7-14 will be able to purchase a special Alpine package, which includes lesson, rentals and lifts, for only $30.00 per day. A Nordic package is also available for $20.00. Eight popular ski areas are participating throughout the state.

“Obviously, the ski industry is enormously important to New Mexico,” said KOAT-7 President/General Manager Mary Lynn Roper. “Personally, I very much enjoyed the sport while growing up in Northern New Mexico. We’re excited to be partnering with Ski New Mexico to give kids around the state an opportunity to learn to ski – especially if they’ve never tried it before.”

“This is a great opportunity for kids to find out first-hand just how great the skiing is in New Mexico – especially with the excellent conditions we’ve been enjoying this season,” said George Brooks, Ski New Mexico’s Executive Director.

Sponsors advise that reservations are required in order to enroll, as each ski area is holding only a limited number of spots for this program. No walk-ups will be accepted, according to Ski New Mexico officials. Reservations begin Friday, February 15.

The eight ski areas participating in KOAT KIDS SKI NEW MEXICO are: Angel Fire, 800-633-7463; Pajarito (Los Alamos) 662-5725; Red River, 754-2223; Sandia Peak, 242-9052; Santa Fe, 982-4429; Sipapu, 800-587-2240; Taos, and Enchanted Forest Nordic Ski Park, 754-6112.

In addition, KOAT-7 will spotlight the participating New Mexico ski areas on the station’s 6:00 PM newscasts beginning Monday, February 18.“It should be a lot of fun showing our viewers some of the kids learning to ski – especially the first-timers,” said Roper.
